Rogers Passerelle Replacement

Rogers Passerelle Replacement

Project Overview

Demolition of existing substructure and installation of new pedestrian bridge.

Project Scope

Nichols completed this project February 2, 2024. The project was delivered by Nichols in the construction management delivery method. Nichols oversaw the project from bid through completion. The project was comprised of demolition of existing Passarelle superstructure and portions of the existing substructure. Fabrication/delivery/installation of a fabricated pedestrian steel truss bridge with impressed current cathodic protection system in the deck, installation of fabricated architectural roof system and cladding components, associated electrical, utility, storm water drainage and maintenance of traffic work.

Challenges & Solutions

  • ADA Access: With the removal of the bridge, ADA access was interrupted, Nichols notified the MTA and was able to build a connecting ADA ramp that allowed for the station to remain open and accessible.
  • Unidentified utilities: During demolition, Nichols discovered telecommunications lines that were shown on the drawings causing a 5-week delay. Nichols was able to coordinate with the MTA, Verizon, and their subcontractors to develop and implement a plan to minimize the delay. Nichols also managed their other subcontractors to make up the 5 weekdays and get the project back on schedule.

Summary

The Rogers Passerelle Replacement is an excellent example of Nichols’ experience. The project was comprised of many facets of construction. Even with the challenges that come with a project of this complexity, Nichols was able to deliver the project on time and on budget. Nichols is proud to provide the community with a wonderful addition to the metro station.
