Capitol Visitor Center Skylight Fountain Repair Project

Project Overview

Repair damages to the Capitol Visitors Center Skylight Fountains.

Project Scope

In 2024, Nichols Contracting successfully completed repairs and rehabilitation on two fountains at the United States Capitol Visitors Center. The project involved addressing erosion damage to stone assemblies, which required meticulous coordination with the owner and operations to ensure the safety of both the public and staff. Eight-thousand-pound stone slabs were carefully removed, reworked, and reset and components in the supply and return reservoirs were reconstructed and the membrane was restored. Thanks to Nichols’ efforts, the water now flows smoothly over the granite panels, creating a mirror-like laminar effect before returning to the reservoirs. The fountains are now fully operational and ready for public enjoyment.
