Providing life safety solutions for buildings goes hand in hand with our elevator and renovation services and our experience with providing ADA compliance upgrades. With our in-house electrical company, Nichols Power Systems, we are a one stop shop for complete fire protection and emergency power systems including generators, fire alarm, and sprinkler installations.
2 Hopkins Plaza Generator
Nichols Contracting provided a new generator in conjunction with the elevator modernization at 2 Hopkins Plaza in downtown Baltimore. The scope of work included a new 200kW diesel generator installed in the parking garage, complete with a 1200A automatic transfer switch, a remote status panel, a 100 gallon gas tank, all required exhaust piping, and electrical work. Our success on this project has led to future work with the same client which is the constant goal of our efforts.
Adeler Jewelry Generator
Great Falls, VA
Nichols Contracting was able to provide a creative way to fulfill our client’s life safety needs at this project. We were able to find a specific generator that was of ample power but limited size to both fit in the tight confines of an attic, and hoisted through a gable vent. The objectives were achieved timely and with no room to spare.
Chatham Condos Generator Replacement
Nichols Contracting replaced an existing generator in conjunction with the elevator modernization at the Chatham Condominium in Arlington, VA. The scope of work included a new 150kW natural gas generator installed in the parking garage, complete with a two 400A automatic transfer switches, all required exhaust piping, mechanical, and electrical work. We poured a new concrete pad for the generator, installed a new fence to secure, and new concrete bollards for safety. We performed on-site training, full load testing, final inspection and attended the first client.
Fairfax Towers Generator & Fire Alarm Upgrade
Falls Church, VA
Nichols Contracting installed a new generator at this Fairfax apartment complex, and provided a complete fire alarm replacement in the building. We determined the most convenient location for the generator, then poured a concrete pad, installed a keystone retaining wall and fence, dug a trench for the electrical feeds, and dropped the 100kW diesel generator in place. Inside the electrical room we installed the new 400A automatic transfer switch and completed the electrical work as needed. After completion of the generator we tackled the fire alarm system, replacing all devices including smokes, strobes, sirens, and installing a new Annunciator and panel. After taking the old system off line, we limited the downtime and resulting fire watch with meticulous planning and close coordination with the Fairfax Fire Marshal. The result is a complete life safety upgrade in a fully occupied building with minimal disturbance to the tenants and management.
