Our elevator business directly led us to providing construction services for escalator modernizations and new installations. Not only do we provide our expected turnkey services for the electrical, mechanical, and building work, we are able to fabricate and install stainless steel cladding as well. Our projects have ranged from malls and offices, to stadiums and metro stations.
Nichols Contracting furnished and installed the stainless steel cladding, electrical, barricades, hoisting means, and removal and replacement of finished for access. This project posed a great logistical challenge to remove and replace the existing escalators due to the location of the units. The lower landing feeds a bus terminal and upper landing opens directly to the street. The upper landing provided no support for hoisting the scalator, so NCI had to engineer a structural hoisting point from a beam above integral to the decorative ateium ceiling. With that, and coordinating use of the bus terminal for access, we were able to get the units in and out with little disruption.
Oriole Park at Camden Yards
Nichols Contracting provided the barricades, crane work, electrical, plumbing, painting, sealing, and stainless steel cladding for the replacement of Escalator #4 at Camden Yards. Due to the nature of the project, there was a hard start and completion date, in addition to coordinating work in conjunction with Baltimore Raven’s home games and working through a Baltimore winter. Nichols Contracting was up for the challenge and turned over an exceptional product on time and ready for opening day.
Smithsonian Air & Space Museum
Nichols Contracting provided the electrical, HVAC, sprinkler, fire alarm, and building work associated with the modernization of two escalators at the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum in Washington, DC. The project included providing finished barricades around the working area to maintain tasteful appearance in the highly visible site. Nichols built a new escalator machine room and ran electrical, fire alarm, sprinkler, and installed a new HVAC unit as required. Nichols Contracting enjoys a long standing working relationship with many of the Smithsonian museums and looks forward to continuing to provide them with our services for years to come.
